Continuing Education Requirements for Arizona Psychologists (And How to Stay on Track)

As a licensed psychologist in the state of Arizona, it is your responsibility to adhere to continuing education requirements every period in order to renew your license. Beyond license renewal being key to you maintaining your practice, continuing education is essential to stay abreast of what is happening in psychology – something your clients will always appreciate you taking seriously. Education is how we all continue to learn and further hone our skills and expertise, so it’s certainly something to be celebrated. Though education is fantastic, keeping on track with the many hours you need to fulfill can be a challenge. Thankfully, there is a fantastic resource available to help you with that. Before we dive into the resource, let’s start by outlining what is required of Arizona psychologist in order to renew their license each cycle.

Licensee Requirements for Arizona Psychologists

Licensed psychologists in the state of Arizona must earn 40 hours of continuing education every two years in order to renew their license. Among the required 40 hours, four need to be on ethics and another four need to be on domestic violence, child abuse, or abuse of vulnerable adults. Arizona does not place a limit on self-study programs for continuing education, though, licensees are required to earn their hours through at least two of the following: post-doctoral study hosted by a college or university, courses/seminars/workshops/home study where a completion certificate is obtained, program offered by a state/national/international society or association, teaching a psychology course at the graduate-level, organizing and presenting a psychology-related educational activity, attendance at Board meetings, serving as a consultant for a complaint (up to 20 hours), authoring or coauthoring a psychology publication, participating in a study group (up to 10 hours), and serving as an officer of a state/national/international psychology society or association.
